DAMASCUS – At least 130 people were killed in the first week of Syria’s truce, local sources reported on Saturday.
The partial truce in Syria, which has been described by activists as “fragile” due to the daily violations by parties to conflict, is planned for one more week, amid preparations by the United Nations in Geneva to host a new round of peace talks between the Syrian government and the opposition factions.
U.N. special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said the talks, originally due to begin on Monday in Geneva, “would get off to a staggered start later in the week”, with delegates arriving from Wednesday onwards.
